July 2006 - Cairo

The present a friend of my parents made me for my confirmation, a three day-trip to Cairo, Egypt, became reality in July 2006. She had never been there before and I only saw the city on a one-day-trip we made from Hurghada in 2004. So we took the train to Munich (8 hours) and then a 2 hours and 40 minutes flight to Cairo, where we landed at 01:35am local time.
For the next morning we planned to visit the Egyptian musem, wich was only a few hundred meters from our Hotel. The Semiramis InterContinental has five stars and is a real dream made of gold and marble. A friendly Egyptian told us the museum would open a few hours later and invited us to his parfume shop where we received some bottles of good parfume for a good price. But then we finally got the chance to go to the museum, the worlds biggest and greatest egyptian museum. Spent about two hours there before going back to the hotel.
That evening we took a taxi to the Khan El Khalily Bazaar. The athmosphere is breathtaking, but the folks there are still annoying. Just answer one of their questions and you won't get rid of them for the whole time. Or until you bought something. I was eased when we were out of there, but still a fantastic memory and adventure.

Next morning, we took the next cab to the pyramids, where we spent several hours in the midday heat and sun (had a good sunburn after that ^^). After lunch in the Pizza hut we took the way to the other side of the city, the citadel. The stronghold was built in around 700 AD to protect the city of cairo. You find some mosques here, parks, a military and a police museum.

The next day we had to leave already about noon, were transferred to the airport. After a stop in Munich we arrived in Hanover at 21:10, where the typical cold and rainy German summer welcomed us.
